Yak-9 - Soviet single-engine fighter-bomber aircraft of World War II. He was the most massive Soviet fighter of the Great Patriotic War. It was produced from October 1942 to December 1948, a total of 16,769 aircraft were built.
At the end of 1943, two fighters appeared, designated the Yak-9U: one with the M-107A engine, the other with the M-105PF-2. For two months of military tests, from October to December 1944, pilots of the 163rd Red Banner IAP carried out 398 sorties on thirty-two Yak-9Us and shot down 27 FW-190As and 1 Bf-109Gs in 18 air battles. Losses amounted to two Yak-9U. The Yak-9U turned out to be one of the most successful modifications of Soviet planes of the Second World War. For fighter pilots, the Yak-9U aircraft was nicknamed “killer” or “killer” for its outstanding qualities.
