Curtiss Aviation had been designating its Fighter Aircraft as "Hawks" since their USAAC P-1 Fighter of the early 20's
The Type 75 by Curtiss (P-36) designed by Donovan Berlin was without a doubt the most fortuitous private venture the company ever endevoured...
Not only was it a modern world standard first generation monoplane fighter but with out it Curtiss would not have had the basis for the Hawk 81 ( P-40) without which the USAAF would have been totally out classed going into WW II
Even more importantly prior to Pearl Harbour in its export forms the Hawk 75 supplied much need modern firepower to the understocked Allied Air Forces being steam rollered by the Luftwaffe ...and later bolstered minor Air Arms world wide in the conflict , aquiting it self well in all theatres
This new book by Dan Hagadorn and Amaru Tincopa fills in much of this history in a very readable and interesting work...
Lots of new photos and art work are included
