    Rare Vintage Bennington Potters Mid-Century Ceramic Fish Plate Dish by David Gil
    Fish shaped dish has carved swirling floral designs and is glazed in h
    ues of neutral browns. There are natural imperfections in the dish which occurred during the glazing process (see photo 7). There is a very small chip off the edge of the tail (see photo 6).Bottom of the dish is not glazed. Dish measures
    15" long x 1 1/4" high x 4" at widest point and has substantial weight. Dish may be used for both serving and as a lovely decorative piece when not in use. Signed "Burlington Potters 1805."
    Bennington Potters was founded in 1948 by master potter David Gil (born David Goldfarb). Gil, a graduate from the New York State College of Ceramics (Alfred University), was already an accomplished potter at this stage, having showcased his skill on the potter’s wheel as a very young man at the New York World’s Fair in 1939. Establishing Bennington Potters meant taking on an important part of Vermont’s ceramic history; the area is known to have been producing pottery since the 1700’s. Gil revived the industry with a small workshop producing hand thrown items. Before long he had established a thriving pottery production as well as working on his own art pottery and sculptural pieces such as his famous split head sculptures. He won numerous awards and enjoyed many international exhibitions of his work.
    David Gil passed away in 2002, but a dedicated team at Bennington Potters continues to produce a wide range of pottery with his design aesthetic in mind; aiming to keep pieces beautiful, functional and affordable
